Tooth removal

A tooth that is cracked below the gum or has lost too much support can't always be saved. This visit is for an adult whose tooth needs to come out.

What happens

Step by step

  1. 01

Step 1: The exam and X-ray

Dr. Olmos shows you why the tooth can't be saved, and what the other choices are.

  2. 02

    Step 2: You decide

Nothing is done until you've heard the fee and agreed.

  3. 03

    Step 3: The removal

We numb the area, and she removes the tooth. A tooth that is buried or tangled with a nerve is referred to an oral surgeon.

  4. 04

Step 4: Healing and what's next

You get written after-care. Usually one visit, then a check. We talk about replacing the tooth when you're ready.

Comfort, choices and care

What to expect

  • Comfort

The area is numbed first. You may feel pressure but should not feel pain, and you can ask us to stop.

  • If you wait

A tooth that can't be saved can spread infection or damage nearby teeth, and she explains what she sees in yours.

  • Risks and after-care

Bleeding, soreness and a dry socket can follow. She explains each and how to care for the area.

  • How it's billed

The estimate lists the removal and any follow-up. You get the fee in writing before treatment, and a receipt after. We file claims for many PPO plans.

Questions about tooth removal

Will it hurt?

We numb the area first, and you can ask us to stop. You may feel pressure. We can't promise you'll feel nothing.

Can the tooth be replaced?

Yes, in more than one way. We'll go through the options when you're ready, not at the removal.

Do you do wisdom teeth?

Simple ones, yes. Buried or tangled ones go to an oral surgeon, and we refer you.
